Message from President
Nka Uforo Iban is a non-profit organization incorporated in the District of Columbia. The Association was founded in 2003 by a group of women dedicated to giving back by raising funds and awareness for women’s and children’s health issues in the United States and Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria.
Our members are indigenes of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria (by birth of either parent, adoption, marriage or naturalization) , who have come together to support select organizations that provide services and support to disadvantaged women and children in the USA and Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, through charitable donations and services. Our organization also promotes an atmosphere of understanding, unity, peace and cooperation among members.
In the few years that the Association has been in existence, we have focused our efforts on providing financial, equipment and technical support services to the Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) Life Center in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. This Center, founded by the Medical Missionaries of Mary in 1937, provides treatment and emotional support to women afflicted with VVF, a very treatable but misunderstood condition. We have also partnered with Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) to support their work on the prevention of HIV/AIDs in the rural communities of Akwa Ibom State. Here in the United States, we provided medical support services and assistance to victims of Hurricane Katrina and have made monetary donations to organizations including St. Ann's Infant and Maternity home in Hyattsville Maryland and House of Ruth in DC.
Please visit our website often for up-coming events, activities and projects. Your tax-deductible donation is very much appreciated.
Sincerely,
President
